All Iridium and Inmarsat services use SIM cards, which may be either Prepaid or Postpaid (monthly plans). This article explains when and how you can reactivate a SIM card, based on its type and status.
New SIM Cards
- New Prepaid SIM: If you have a new prepaid SIM card that has never been activated and needs to be activated, please see this article: How To Activate Your SIM Card.
- Postpaid (Monthly) SIM: These are shipped already activated and require no activation on your end.
Prepaid SIM Cards
-
Active but Expired Prepaid SIM: If your prepaid SIM has run out of minutes or passed its expiration date, it can still be refilled if it appears in your BlueCosmo account under Manage Prepaid Refills.
For instructions, please see How To Refill A SIM Card. -
Deactivated-Expired Prepaid SIM (270+ Days Expired): If your prepaid SIM has been inactive for over 270 days, it will be fully deactivated and will no longer appear in your account.
In this case, the SIM cannot be reactivated. You'll need to purchase a new prepaid SIM card.**
**Special Case: Reactivation of a Deactivated-Expired Iridium Prepaid SIM Card:
In exceptional cases, Customer Care may be able to manually reactivate an Iridium prepaid SIM that has been inactive for over 270 days, only if shipping a replacement is not possible (e.g., offshore or in remote areas).
Important notes:
- Manual reactivations are not guaranteed and are handled on a case-by-case basis.
- A reactivation fee will apply, in addition to standard refill charges.
- The satellite phone number may change upon reactivation.
To request a manual reactivation, please contact our Customer Care Team.
Postpaid (Monthly) SIM Cards
If you have an old postpaid SIM card that was previously deactivated, you can reactivate it from your online account at Manage Airtime Plans. Please see How to Reactivate Postpaid (Monthly) Services.
You can reactivate your postpaid SIM an unlimited number of times at no charge.
Sometimes, SIM cards that have already been reactivated once won’t appear automatically in your account due to backend syncing delays.
If this happens, please contact our Support Team. We’ll assist you with manually reactivating your SIM.
Avoid Frequent Deactivations and Reactivations
While you can reactivate your postpaid SIM at any time, we recommend keeping your SIM active whenever possible. This helps maintain consistent service and avoids potential delays in reactivation or connectivity, especially when using your device in remote areas.
