If your Iridium Extreme® displays a SIM card error, it’s most often due to the SIM tray not being fully locked into position. This guide explains how to safely insert and secure the SIM card to prevent connection errors.
Tip: You can also watch the instructional video included below for a quick walkthrough of the process.
How to Insert the SIM Card
Turn off the phone. Always power off the handset before removing or inserting the SIM card.
Remove the battery.
Twist the D-ring screw counterclockwise to unlock the battery compartment.
Lift the battery out carefully.
Insert the SIM card.
Slide the SIM card into the slot with the cut corner aligned to match the slot.
The gold contacts on the SIM should face downward toward the phone.
Lock the SIM card tray.
Close the SIM card door.
Slide the tray to lock it into place.
You should hear a “click” when the tray is properly secured.
Note: The arrow printed on the SIM tray indicates the direction to unlock or open the tray. Sliding the tray opposite the arrow locks it in place.
Reinsert the battery.
Place the battery back into the compartment.
Twist the D-ring screw clockwise to lock it.
Press firmly on the center of the battery to ensure it’s properly seated.
Power on the phone. Confirm that the SIM card error message no longer appears.
If the SIM Error Persists
For monthly plan SIM cards: Verify that your service is active.
For prepaid SIM cards: Check that your balance includes remaining minutes or validity days.
If the issue continues, remove and reinsert the SIM card again, ensuring the tray locks securely.
Tip: Avoid forcing the SIM tray. It should slide and click smoothly into place. Never press down or push at an angle.
Best Practices
Handle the SIM card by its edges to avoid damaging the gold contacts.
Keep the SIM slot cover and battery compartment dry and free of dust.
Store spare SIMs in a protective case to prevent scratches or static damage.
