If your Iridium Extreme or Iridium 9555 has not been used for several years, you may notice that the time and date appear incorrect and do not update when connected to the satellite network. This issue is related to an Iridium epoch update that took place on March 3, 2015. Older handsets require a one-time reset command to restore accurate network time.
The steps below will help you restore the correct time and ensure the phone updates properly moving forward.
Restore Time on Iridium 9555 & Iridium Extreme
Dial the following command exactly as shown: *#99#2014051114235500#
Press the Green (Send) key.
Power off the handset.
Power the handset back on.
Allow the handset to register on the Iridium network.
The phone should now display the correct time.
If the Time Is Still Incorrect
If the time does not update after completing the steps above, check your time zone settings.
Press Menu.
Scroll to Setup and press Select.
Scroll to Time & Date and press Select.
Scroll to Select Time Zone and press Select.
Choose the correct UTC offset for your region.
The phone will now display the correct local time.
Best Practices
Ensure the phone has a clear view of the sky so it can register and update network time.
Update your UTC offset when traveling between time zones.
If the handset was stored for many years, perform this procedure before regular use.
