The Iridium GO! exec does not support native SMS messaging or Short Burst Data (SBD). You cannot send or receive SMS using the device or the Iridium GO! exec app. This may change with future firmware updates, but as of now, SMS is not available.
Despite this, there are reliable ways to send messages using your Iridium GO! exec.
Recommended messaging method
Iridium Chat App
Uses Iridium IMT messaging, which avoids unnecessary data usage
Seamlessly switches between satellite, mobile network and Wi-Fi
Provides a cost-effective and reliable way to stay connected
Messaging through third-party applications
You can also send messages using third-party apps that operate over the data connection. Common examples include:
WhatsApp
Facebook Messenger
Signal
Other internet-based chat platforms
For a list of apps tested with the Iridium GO! exec, see: Iridium GO! exec – Recommended Apps.
Important: To use third-party messaging apps effectively, you must select the correct Web/App data profile before starting a data session. The Web/App profile ensures that only the app you intend to use is allowed to send data, preventing background apps from consuming bandwidth.
If your messaging app cannot send or receive messages while connected to the GO! exec (even when the device is fully registered to the satellite), the most likely cause is that the wrong data profile is selected.
Choosing the correct Web/App profile
Select a profile that matches your messaging app
If your app does not appear in the default list, create a custom profile
Custom profiles are saved directly to your Iridium GO! exec
To set the Web/App profile, see: Iridium GO! exec – Internet and Connection Manager.
To create or modify a custom profile, see: Iridium GO! exec – Creating and Managing Custom Web/App Profiles.
Using the “All Open” profile
If no other options work, you can select the All Open data profile to allow unrestricted data access.
Important: The All Open profile allows all background data from your smart device or computer. This can lead to very high data usage and should be used only temporarily or for troubleshooting.
