The keypad on your Iridium Extreme® is divided into three main sections: Soft Keys, Navigation Keys, and Alphanumeric Keys. Each section plays an important role in navigating menus, entering information, and managing calls.
Tip: Becoming familiar with the keypad layout helps you operate your phone more easily, even when wearing gloves or working in low visibility.
Soft Keys
The soft keys are located just below the screen. They let you select the options displayed in the lower left and lower right corners of the screen.
The Left Soft Key performs the action shown in the bottom-left corner (for example, Menu or Select).
The Right Soft Key performs the action shown in the bottom-right corner (for example, Back or Cancel).
Note: The text labels on the screen change depending on what menu or screen you’re viewing.
Navigation Keys
The navigation keys, also called the 2-way Navi-key, are located in the center of the keypad. They allow you to move through menus and options displayed on the screen.
Use the Up and Down arrows to scroll through lists or settings.
If you see an arrow icon on the display, it means there are more options available above or below.
To select a highlighted menu item, press the Left Soft Key under Select.
To go back, press the Right Soft Key under Back. If Back is not available, you can also press the Red (End) key to return to the previous screen.
Tip: The center of the navigation pad can also act as a confirmation key in some menus.
Alphanumeric Keys
The alphanumeric keypad includes all numbered and lettered keys. These keys are used to:
Dial phone numbers.
Enter letters and punctuation for text messages or contact names.
Type special symbols by pressing and holding certain keys.
Example: To type a “+” symbol when dialing internationally, press and hold 0 until it appears.
Best Practices
Keep keys free of dust or debris to maintain responsiveness.
Press keys firmly but gently — avoid using fingernails or sharp objects.
Use the keypad lock feature when storing or transporting the phone to prevent accidental key presses.
