There have been many 9555 hardware revisions over the years, not all of which have been listed in the release notes (under 'Hardware Compatibility'). All revisions up to the release of the firmware update should function properly.
The HT19002 release notes contain steps that should be used to upgrade an Iridium 9555 handset from firmware version HT11001 or later.
How to check current Firmware:
Before updating the Firmware on your Iridium 9555 it's important to know what firmware version your phone currently has installed. To check the current version:
1. On the main screen, select Menu
2. Scroll down and select Setup
3. Scroll down and select Phone Information
4. The Firmware Version will be the first option
Important:
- Only a Windows computer can be used to complete the upgrade.
- Remove the SIM card and reinstall the battery before completing a firmware update.
- Ensure the battery for the computer and the 9555 is fully charged.
- Disable Bluetooth on the computer.
- During the upgrade process the handset will display various information on the screen,
including “Upgrading…” - At times the handset screen may go completely blank.
- The upgrade process may take 20 or more minutes to complete.
- Do not disconnect the handset or press any keys while the upgrade is in progress.
How to complete the Firmware Update:
The firmware installer for Iridium 9555 HT19002, along with the release notes may be downloaded by clicking this link.
1. Run the upgrade installer application:
- Once the installation is complete, click "Open file"
- The name is Iridium 9555 Software Upgrade HT19002 Installer.exe
- This will place the Upgrade Tool and USB drivers into C:\Program Files\Iridium\9555\ Directory
2. Follow the on screen instructions to "allow" "continue" or "next" depending on your computer pop up notices.
3. Connect the device to the computer using the USB cable.
- If the handset is being connected to this PC for the first time, or to a USB port that has not been used before, the driver will be installed automatically. Wait for Windows to show the "New Hardware Installed" notification.
- If Windows is unable to automatically locate the USB Driver, it can be found at C:\Program Files\Iridium\9555\USB/VCOMPORT
4. Next, launch the the target of the installer, which is C:\Program Files\Iridium\9555\Upgrade_Tool\ Iridium 9555 Software Upgrade HT19002.exe.
5. To get to this section, first we want to open our Windows Explorer application which usually looks like this icon:
6. Next, we will navigate to This PC > OS: C and double click. There will be a list of folders, we want to select Program Files.
7. After selecting Program Files double click to open. Select the Iridium folder and then double click to open that folder to get to the 9555 folder.
8. In the 9555 folder there will be Upgrade_Tool, click on that folder to open it. Then, click on the file type that says Iridium 9555 Software Upgrade HT19002.exe
9. Follow instructions presented by the upgrade tool user interface. The upgrade process may take 20 or more minutes to complete.
