If you are using an Iridium or Inmarsat handset with active service, you can make a test call free of charge. Testing your device before travel is highly recommended to ensure your handset is fully operational when you need it.
Iridium Network Test Call
- Take your device outside.
- Extend your antenna and ensure you have a clear line of sight to the sky, preferably away from any large obstructions or heavy canopy.
- Press and hold the power button to power on your handset. After booting up, the phone should indicate "Searching for Iridium...".
- Wait for the handset to display "Registered". A green LED indicator will also be displayed indicating you have signal.
- Dial the Iridium Test number: +1-480-752-5105 (press and hold 0 to obtain +) or dial 00-1-480-752-5105.
- Press the GREEN button (or the 'OK' button on the 9505A) to initiate the call.
- If your call is successful, you'll hear an automated greeting stating your call has been successfully connected.
- To end a call, press the RED button.
IMPORTANT:
- All outbound calls/SMS must use full international dialling sequence as indicated above. Dial + OR 00, then [country code] [area code] [phone number].
- Calls to the free Iridium test number will not show up on postpaid monthly invoices under Device usage reports.
Inmarsat Network Test Call
- Turn on your phone. Press and hold the RED key for several seconds until the phone powers on.
- Find a clear outdoor location. Go outside and ensure you have a clear, unobstructed view of the sky, pointing upwards and facing the southern horizon.
- Extend the antenna. Fully extend the antenna and point it upward at a 45-degree angle towards the southern horizon. Keep the phone in this position throughout the call.
- Wait for satellite connection. The phone will automatically connect to the satellite network. Wait until “Inmarsat” appears at the top left of the screen.

- Ensure that you have sufficient battery power and at least two bars of signal strength.

- Wait for a GPS fix.After extending the antenna, the phone will automatically acquire a GPS fix (this can take 1–2 minutes).

- Ensure the ‘GPS fix required’ icon is no longer visible before placing a call.

- Place a test call. Dial the free test Inmarsat test number using full international dialling: +870 776 999 999 (press and hold 0 to obtain +) OR dial 00-870-776-999-999.
- Initiate the call. Once the number is dialled, press the GREEN key to make the call.
- During the call. The screen will display a "Calling" message and the name of the person being called (if listed in your Phonebook or SIM contacts).

- When the call is answered, the screen will show the call duration in minutes and seconds.

- To end the call, press the RED key.
